George John Kaptain, MD

George John Kaptain, M.D. is the surgical director of Neuro-Oncology, Skull-Base Surgery and Radiosurgery at the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Dr. Kaptain is one of the nation’s leading surgeons in surgical and radiosurgical treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the brain, spine and skull base. Dr. Kaptain has led over 20 clinical trials for glioblastoma, placing him at the forefront of brain tumor treatment. Dr. Kaptain is also an expert in pituitary surgery, allowing him to provide a range of expert services to his patients.
He attended medical school at the University of Virginia, and stayed with the university for his residency in their Department of Neurosurgery. He also completed an advanced residency at the Department of Neurosurgery in Neuropathology, and a postdoctoral fellowship in skull-base surgery at Oregon Health Science University Hospital.
Additionally, Dr. Kaptain is a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Pituitary Society, and Society of Neuro-Oncology. Through his involvement in these organizations, speaking engagements and publications, Dr. Kaptain aims to improve quality of care for all patients with brain, spine, and skull-base tumors.
