HMH - Integrative Health and Medicine - Red Bank
Muftiya Issa ND, MSAOM, LAc is a board-certified acupuncture and integrative medicine practitioner who is passionate about working with patients to achieve their optimal wellness. She focuses on addressing and removing obstacles to cure and establishing "foundations of health" - structural integrity, environmental health, nourishment, movement, stress management, sleep hygiene, and spiritual and emotional well-being. She relies heavily on integrating Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mind-Body Medicine, Craniosacral Therapy, and Western Diagnostic modalities for a truly individualized and comprehensive treatment approach for each patient. Prior to joining Integrative Health and Medicine at Hackensack Meridian Health, Muftiya received advanced training in Women’s Health and Fertility, Oncology, Pain Management, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Nutrition, Sleep Disorders, Mind-Body Medicine, Craniosacral Therapy, and Kinesio Taping. She is passionate about Social Justice, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism, especially in healthcare, and integrates these values into her daily practice.
A native of Brooklyn, Muftiya received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Religious Studies from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. During her undergraduate tenure, she focused on the intersection of Philosophy, Religion, and the human body. She shadowed world-renowned surgeons, physicians, and specialists throughout her high school and college years. Having grown up utilizing Integrative Medicine, Muftiya recognized a lack of these modalities in our current healthcare system, which inspired her to pursue a career that would help change that. She received a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington. While at Bastyr, she received a Social Justice, Diversity, and Equity Certificate from the Center of Social Justice and Diversity, and was heavily involved as a leader and community organizer. She completed the AHEC Scholars National Program, focusing on the AHEC mission of advocacy, education, and research in order to enhance access to quality primary and preventative healthcare. During her time in Washington, she continued her advocacy for community and global health, providing healthcare services in Women’s, Children's, and Teenage shelters, YMCAs, and mobile clinics. Muftiya also participated in various community outreach and teaching seminars that focused on educating individuals on Nutrition, Acute Care, Acupuncture, Mind-Body Medicine, Stress-reducing Techniques, and Herbal Medicine.
During her free time, Muftiya enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and friends, traveling, reading, learning about different cultures, and volunteering.
