Shama Farooq, MD

Shama Farooq, M.D., MBBS, is a board certified and fellowship trained Neuro-oncologist who has joined Hackensack Meridian Medical Group. Dr. Farooq will be working alongside Eduardo Correia, M.D. as part of the neuro-oncology team at the Neuroscience Institute at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Her clinical expertise and interests include primary brain tumors, Glioblastoma Multiforme, Astrocytoma, Oligodendroglioma, Meningioma, Ependymoma, Hemangiopericytoma, Brain Metastasis, Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, and CNS Lymphoma. She also has expertise in diagnosing and treating neurologic complications of cancer.
Prior to joining HMH, Dr. Farooq was an Assistant Professor in Neurology and Director of Neuro-oncology at Boston University in Boston, MA. Dr. Farooq is passionate about clinical research and academia. She has given lectures at several national neurology meetings focusing on glioblastoma and leptomeningeal disease. Her published work is featured in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports. Dr. Farooq is also an avid lecturer on topics ranging from strokes to brain tumors and many other conditions related to neuro-oncology. Dr. Farooq is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), Society for Neuro-oncology (SNO), and the American Society of Clinical Research (ASCO).
