Usha Avva, MD

Born and raised in India, my story is very similar to many immigrants who travel to this country for higher education. Although I received my basic medical education in India, I received medical training in pediatrics, pediatric critical care and pediatric emergency medicine during my first 7 years in the USA. For the past 20 years, I have been practicing pediatric emergency medicine at Hackensack University Medical Center. One of the reasons I became a pediatrician is my strong belief that “healthy children make a healthy nation” and in the adage “it takes a village to raise a child.” Every person who interacts with a child has a responsibility in modeling their future. Many parents bring their child to the pediatric emergency department when they are concerned about their child’s wellbeing. I am fortunate to work in an excellent facility that keeps children’s health as one of its top priorities. I would like to partner with the parents in keeping their children healthy.
Philosophy of Care
It is my goal to partner with parents to help maintain children’s health to the best of my ability. To that extent, it is my goal to practice evidence-based medicine to stay on the cusp of ever-changing medical science and technology, while maximally utilizing our available institutional resources.
