Kiandokht Keyhanian, MD

Dr. Kiandokht Keyhanian is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist specializing in neuro-ophthalmology, neuroimmunology and multiple sclerosis care. She is an assistant professor of Neurology at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.
Dr. Keyhanian provides diagnostic and ongoing care for patients with multiple sclerosis at the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center. In addition to treating multiple sclerosis, Dr. Keyhanian specializes in other central nervous system (CNS) autoimmune disorders including neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease (MOGAD), vasculitis, lupus, Sjögren's syndrome, sarcoidosis, non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), giant cell arteritis, increased intracranial pressure, visual field defects, diplopia, and thyroid eye disease.
Dr. Keyhanian earned her medical degree from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Isfahan, Iran. She practiced Emergency Medicine for 2 years before returning to Isfahan University for research in Neurosciences. Later, supported by the prestigious McDonald Fellowship Award from the Multiple Sclerosis International Foundation, she joined a research lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard University to study adipokine effects on the expression of pro-inflammatory genes in children with MS.
Following her research fellowship, Dr. Keyhanian completed a neurology residency and chief residency at University of Massachusetts, UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts She then trained in neuro-ophthalmology for 1 year at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital, and in multiple sclerosis-neuroimmunology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both at Harvard Medical School.
In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Keyhanian has contributed to 22 articles, 18 abstracts and two book chapters to medical literature and delivered invited lectures and poster presentations at national and international conferences. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and has served on two medical journal editorial boards.
